Placing a sutrah when performing salaah

Q: Is it obligatory to have a sutrah when performing salaah?

In my training centre, the staff make sure the room I pray in is vacant and I don’t have a prayer mat – I just check if the floor is clean. Is this ok?

A: If there is the possibility of someone passing then it is emphasised.
