Q: We sometimes hear that effort on iman was done for 9 to 13 years in Makkah by Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Why is the figure 9 to 13 mentioned? Is it because the period of the boycott in the gorge is not counted for a few 3 or 4 years, or is it because for some years dawat was done privately, and not openly?
A: It was done throughout this period of 13 years, sometimes openly and sometimes secretly.
