Adding Abdul before the name Maalik

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Allah Subahanahu wa Ta’ala has 99 names. I would like to name soon to be child (if its boy) Maalik. But I heard never to put the names of Allah without adding Abd or Abdul first. So is it necessary to add Abd or Abdul before Malik? Because I also heard of names like Imam Maalik and Anas bin Maalik.

Bismillaah

A: This name is not among the names of Allah Ta’ala which are exclusive to him. Hence, it is permissible for you to name your son Maalik.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
