Definition of makrooh

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What is makrooh? By doing anything that is Makrooh, will a person also get gunaah?

Bismillaah

A: Sometimes the word makrooh is used to show that the action is not the preferred action, though through carrying it out, one will not be sinful. This is referred to as makrooh-e-tanzeehi. At times the word makrooh refers to an impermissible action and through carrying it out, one becomes sinful. This is referred to as makrooh-e-tahreemi.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
