Piercing the nose and ears

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Someone asked me that if tattoo is haram then why not piercing? What should I reply? If piercing ear and nose is right then why not tongue belly etc?

Bismillaah

A: It is permissible for a woman to pierce her nose or ears. However, it is not permissible for her to pierce her belly and tongue. These practices are kuffar practices. Muslims should therefore avoid such practices. As far as tattooing is concerned, this is prohibited in Islam. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has cursed the one who puts a tattoo on the body of any person and the one for whom the tattoo is put.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
