Studying Sufism in college

Q: Is it permissible to take a college course of Sufism? I will be starting class soon and I found a good Professor. I do not consider myself a Sufi, but I am just searching for a good professor who has clear class structures and such.

A: Tasawwuf is understood in the company of a buzurg. Learning it through books without the guidance of an experienced righteous shaikh is generally confusing and misleading.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
