Keeping the light on in the room where one’s mother is sleeping to engag in ibaadat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: During Ramadaan my mother was sleeping in the same room with me and I wanted to stay up for the whole night in ibaadat. I couldn’t leave the room due to purdah and my mother said that she does not mind having the light on, so I left it on for a long while. Was this correct? 2. What takes preference, awaabeen salaah, or helping in the kitchen?

Bismillaah

A:

1. Since she did not mind sleeping in the room while the light remained switched on, then there was no problem in you leaving the light on and engaging in ibaadat.

2. If your parents are in need of your assistance, then it is better for you to shorten your awwabeen and assist them.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
