Reasons for good deeds getting destroyed

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: How does the system of Allah Ta’ala work with the regards to losing your deeds due to your sins. I heard in a bayaan that it’s like a sink where you should make taubah immediately or else all your deeds go away. Unfortunately I want to clarifiy this due to my poor memory.

Bismillaah

A: The deeds could be destroyed on account of several reasons. 1. For turning away from Islam (irtidaad). 2. Deed done for show and publicity. 3. After doing some work of kindness you cause some pain and hurt through reminders of generosity etc. 4. On account of evil deeds in general. Evil deeds ruin the barkat and goodness of righteous deeds.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
