Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by FatwaCentre.org

Question

I work in NHS where by default there is an option of getting NHS pension by contributing around 10% of salary and employer adds its own contribution. On reaching pension age, one can get pension every month based on average earnings through all working years with NHS. Is opting in on this scheme halal or haram?

Answer

The NHS pension scheme is a defined benefit scheme. It is permissible for you to enter into the pension scheme.
