Shrines and domes over graves.

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by

Q. Is it permissible to make shrines and domes over the graves of saints and visit these places for barakah, eg there is ashrine in Ajmer in india, so is it permissible to make such structures?

A. It is not permissible to make shrines and domes over the graves. These are prohibited in Islam. It is also not permissible to visit these places for barakah etc. Today, a lot of Muslims visit the tombs/shrines of others with the belief that the deceased will help them and remove their problems. A number of unlawful things also take place at these shrines which I have seen. Corrupted and shirk beliefs have come about regarding the pious ones who are the inhabitants of the graves. Hence, one should safeguard himself from all these innovations and unlawful practices by not visiting these shrines.

And Allah knows best.
