Zakaah recipients.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question:

Who should zakaah be paid to?

Answer:

Zakaah can be paid to any one of the eight categories of deserving recipients:

  1. The poor
  2. The needy
  3. Those in an Islamic state appointed to collect and distribute zakaah.
  4. A person in debt
  5. Those in the path of Allah
  6. New reverts to Islam
  7. A traveller who experiences difficulty
  8. Those in bondage such as those enslaved or captives of war

These are the people to whom zakaah can be paid. It can be given directly to them or can be given to any organization or mosque who will then distribute it to them. A person has the choice to do whatever he wishes.

And Allah knows best.
