Can a Sunni man marry a Shia woman who follows Ahlay Sunnat wal Jamat?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
If a shia girl admits in front of her mother that she does NOT follow shiaism but totally follow ‘Ahlay Sunnat wal jamat’the question is; Is it right for a sunni man to marry her,or has she is to take the Shahada in front of other witnesses?please clarify?

Answer

(Fatwa: 986/D=199/K=1431)

The fundamental practice of Shia is taqiyya and kitman (concealment). Hence if she says that she did not accept Shiaism rather she followed Ahl Sunnat Wal Jamat is not enough but she should declare her separation from the basic beliefs of Shias, i.e. believing Imams as infallible, the belief that Hadhrat Jibrael (عليه السلام) mistook in delivering wahi, accusing Hadhrat Ayesha (رضى الله عنها) of adultery, the belief that Sahaba turned apostate or that Sayyidna Abu Bakr and Sayyidna Umar (رضی اللہ عنھما) are extorter of caliphate etc. She should do true and genuine tauba from these false beliefs and should pronounce Kalimah with true heart and adopt the way of Ahl-e-Sunnah Wal Jamat until people start believing in her; only then marriage shall be valid with her.
