My Brother’s Name is Mohammad Mateen, lots of people are telling him that keeping only Mateen without Abdul is not lawful. Please, advise what should be done. Should he change his name to Abdul Mateen or keep his name as it is?

Mateen is one of the attributes of Allah; thus the name should be Abdul Mateen. But besides being an attribute of Allah, this word is used for other meaning as well and applies to others as well; thus it can be used without the prefix of ‘Abd’ like Mateen Ahmad.
