Picking up shoppers’ receipts from the floor

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamu a’alikum W.W

I had previously asked this question but did not recieve a repsonse.

Is it allowed for someone to pick up other shoppers reciepts from the floor in supermarkets or supermarkets car parks. These reciepts can then be used to gain points on a loyalty card.

Jazakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, if one finds an item on the floor and one is certain that it has been disposed by the owner and the owner does not want it, then it will be permissible to take that item[1].

However, as far as gaining points with them, kindly clarify how the loyalty card and points system works. You may revert to us at admin@daruliftaa.net and we will advise accordingly.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
