Should I Perform the Prostration of Recital Even If I Can’t Hear Clearly the Recitation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Assalamu Alaikum.

My mother usually reads Qur’an in her room next to mine but I can’t hear her clearly. If a verse of prostration is recited what should I do?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this reaches you in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

If you cannot hear the recitation, there is no obligation to prostrate.

Continue to go about your business, and if you happen to hear a verse of prostration, prostrate. But you don’t have to listen out for it.

And Allah alone gives success.
