Masjid Water for Personal Use

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Mufti E. Salejee

In our town the masjid has a borehole and hence a continuous water supply. This borehole was dug with the funds of the masjid. Sometimes the municipality shuts down the water due to repairs etc. In such a case can we use the masjid water for our personal needs ? i.e. Can we fill water from the masjid for use at home ?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

It is permissible to use this water, since water is a free entity. However electricity is used to draw the water. It will therefore be appropriate that the masjid fund be re-imbursed for this service.
