Why do Muslims say other religions are wrong when Islam only says their way of worshipping is wrong?

Asaalaam-o-alaikum. I am an Indian Hindu. As far as my understanding of Islam goes, Islam doesnt call itself a different religion. Islam calls itself the correct or true way of worshipping the Almighty. Islam doesnt say that other religions are wrong per se. But it only says that people of other religions have misinterpreted their religions and they are worhsipping the Almighty in a wrong way. If that is the case, why many Muslims Scholars and preachers publicly say that other religions are “wrong” and Islam is the only correct and true religion? Whereas the fact is that Islam says that only the “way of worshipping” of the Almighty in other religions is wrong. Please comment.
