Can I Pray With Blood on Me?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question:

Is blood filthy? Can you pray with blood on you? What if the blood is mixed with other things?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

Allah Most High has said, “He has chosen you and did not impose any hardship on you in the religion.” [Qur’an, 22: 78]

In light of this verse, even though blood is filthy, and even though filth on one’s person breaks the prayer, avoiding it completely is very, very difficult given that we are full of blood and prone to injuries.

Hence, a small amount of blood, even if it is mixed with something else, is always excused in prayer. [Bushra al-Karim, Ba ‘Ishn]

I pray this helps.
