Question
Is it allowed and permissible to drink coffee made from beans that have been through the digestive system of a civet cat?

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Kopi luwak is a coffee that consists of partially digested coffee cherries, which have been eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet cat. It is therefore also called civet coffee. The cherries are fermented as they pass through a civet’s intestines, and after being defecated with other faecal matter, they are collected.[1]
In principle, if the beans are defecated in its original condition without any metamorphosis in its shape and colour it is permissible to consume them after washing them and drying them. However, if any metamorphosis occurs it will not be permissible to consume them. [2]

شعير في بعر أو روث صلب يؤكل بعد غسله، وفي خثي لا. مرارة كل حيوان كبوله وجرته كزبله. حكم العصير حكم الماء. رطوبة الفرج طاهرة خلافا لهما العبرة للطاهر من تراب أو ماء اختلطا به يفتى.

(قوله: شعير إلخ) في التتارخانية: إذا وجد الشعير في بعر الإبل والغنم يغسل ويجفف ثلاثا ويؤكل وفي أخثاء البقر لا يؤكل. قال في الفتح: لأنه لا صلابة فيه. .
ثم نقل في التتارخانية عن الكبرى أن الصحيح التفصيل بالانتفاخ وعدمه، ويستوي فيه البعر والخثي اهـ أي: إن انتفخ لا يؤكل فيهما وإلا أكل فيهما، وبحث نحوه في شرح المنية، وبما ذكرنا علم أن قوله صلب مرفوع صفة ثانية ل ” شعير ” فافهم

(إذا) وجد الشعير في بعر الغنم أو الإبل يغسل ثلاثاً ويؤكل وإن كان في إخثاء البقر لا يكون (إذا) أحرق الرجل رأس شاة وقد تلطخت بالدم ولم يغسله وطبخه في قدر جاز ولا يفسد المرق (اللحم) إذا كان عليه دم مسفوح كان نجساً وإن لم يكن من الدم المسفوح لا يكون نجساً (الطائر)
