Skype Nikaah: Permissible or Not?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My son was introduced to a girl from Pakistan and we had a nikaah via Skype. We had an IT company link the two parties over live feed. We had a a function, separate ladies and men. The ladies were only allowed to see the bride and the men where only allowed to link with the male parties from Pakistaan. The nikaah was conducted live with the 2 sides and it was an arranged marriage. I have heard that this is not permissible, do I have to repeat the nikaah?

Bismillaah

A: If the consent was obtained from the girl’s side and the nikaah was done with at least two adult male Muslims being present then the nikaah is valid.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
