Would an invalid marriage by secular law nullify an Islamic marriage?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

If a marriage would be considered valid under the Islamic law but is forbidden by secular civil law would that marriage be considered valid or invalid?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Islamic marriage (Nikah) will be valid even if it is not valid in civil law. [1]
