Assalamu alaikum,
We have a carpet washer machine, and floor carpet with large area of impurity on it. Can we use the carpet washer-vacuum to purify it? Since you have to push the machine forward, to allow it to spray the water and detergent, and pull it to allow it to suck out moisture (the pulling back of the machine is done several times over the same area), wouldn’t this back and forth movement make the wheels and the rotating scrubbers filthy in the process? Or do you think it would become purified during the 4-5 times it done? I dont want to fall over waswasa over this and just want to purify the large area of impurity quickly to stop me dwelling on it.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, if a carpet is soiled with impurities, it is necessary to wash it with water. [i]
The carpet washer machine, according to our understanding operates in the following manner:[ii]
- As you push the machine forward, you hold the lever down to spray water and detergent onto the carpet; doing this a few times over the same area will be equivalent to thoroughly washing it with water.
- The rotary brushes spin thereby cleaning all the stubborn dirt of the carpet; Equivalent to scrubbing the carpet, which is not necessary but would be a measure of precaution.
- Finally you release the lever and pull the machine slowly back over the same area, thereby extracting as much dirt and water as possible; This would assist in getting rid of the impurities completely
As a matter of precaution, first wash the carpet manually to remove the impurities and to avoid the wheels of the machine rotating on the impurities of the carpet. You may then proceed to vacuum the area until there are no traces of any impurities left.
