Navigating Interactions with Non-Muslims: Greetings and Seasonal Responses

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I work with non-Muslims so the following situations arise:

1. How should I greet them because if I do not greet them then they feel offended?

2. When they say seasons greetings or compliments of the season at December time, how should I reply?

Bismillaah

A:

1. You may state the type of greetings that you could offer. We will look into it.

2. You may say, ‘May He guide us,’ referring to Allah Ta`ala.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
