Do I need to pay Zakat every year if my savings don’t increase or decrease?

 i have 20 thousand Dollars since 3 years and once i paid the zakat in last year do i need to pay every years becuase my 20 thousand not increased and decreased its fix and once i paid its zakat. do i need to every year pay.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Yes, you have to pay Zakat every year on this $20,000. It does not matter that it has not increased. 

This, as long as your wealth (assets on which Zakat is applicable after subtracting debts) reaches the amount of nisab (612.35 grams of silver or any currency that equals this amount) on the day you calculate Zakat and you have had this wealth for one lunar year.

Note that since Zakat is obligatory on you, any amount you receive even a day before your annual Zakat date will also be added to your total wealth and Zakat given on it. It does not matter that you did not have this amount for a year because as long as a person possesses the nisab at the beginning and at the end of the year, Zakat will be due on the total amount of his wealth at the end of the year. 

For example, if you have $20,000 and you receive a gift of $5,000 one day before your Zakat is due, you will have to give Zakat on $25,000.

Likewise, any wealth that leaves your ownership even a day before your annual Zakat date will be subtracted from your total wealth and will not be included in your wealth for calculating Zakat. 

For example, you have $20,000 and purchased furniture for your home with $5,000 one day before your Zakat is due, you will only pay Zakat on $15,000. [i][ii][iii][iv]
