Chit Fund

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

I had planned to save through Chit Funds ( Qurra ) which is non profitable and ran by the Imam ( Custodian ) and Khatib of a Mosque. My name was called for the Month of Nov 2015. Initially the money was not paid by the Imam for 1 month stating the other members have not made contribution. The Custodian handed me only 25 % ( Actually 100 % to be paid ) of the amount as a installment. Upon my further compulsion he paid 50 % in the next month , again stating that members failed to make the contribution. I have been requesting him to pay rest 25 % for more than 1 month and he does not respond or answer my calls and always gives excuses to make the payment when I am in need of my money.

Finally I thought to forget the remaining 25 % ,I do not want to go legally as its managed by the Imam of the mosque.

Please suggest how should I proceed. Can I leave the amount as Sadaqa.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Could you provide clarity on how the chit fund operates? Kindly explain in detail the purpose, the way it’s operated and how each one benefits. [1]

Kindly email your response to admin@daruliftaa.net

You may also take the matter up with the trustees of the Masjid and request their intervention in the matter. Do inform the Imam of your intention to do so.
