Is it forbidden to keep records of one’s charity and expenses on children?
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate. May Allah guide our hearts, tongues, and deeds to that which perpetually pleases Him.
Recording Charity for Worldy and Other-worldly Reasons
Keeping such records for worldly reasons such as accounting is generally permitted. If it is for reminding the recipients of one’s kindness to them or seeking favor, it is prohibited and could nullify one’s rewards by Allah.
Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate, says: “Oh you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day. His example is like a [large] smooth stone upon which is dust and is hit by a downpour that leaves it bare. They are unable [to keep] anything of what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.” [Qur’an 2:264]
I pray this is of benefit and that Allah guides us all.
