Question: Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

I was wondering if it is acceptable to recite a surah and make the intention of giving its reward to multiple people. For example, if I read surah Yasin or al-Fatihah for several people who are unwell, would they all receive the benefit?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

Yes, this is perfectly fine. There aren’t any restrictions, as such, and each person shall have whatever they intend.

Allah Most High says, “We send down the Qur’an as healing and mercy to those who believe” [17.82]
