Zakaat after finding a lost ring

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My ring was lost for a period of 2 years. I now found my ring. Must I pay Zakaah on those years that my ring was lost?

Bismillaah

A: If you continued to look for it and did not lose hope of finding it, you will have to pay zakaat for the period it was lost. However, if you had lost hope of finding it, zakaat is not compulsory from the time you lost hope of finding it.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
