Taking one’s sister in-law for hajj

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it possible to take my sister-in-law for hajj with me? She is a widow and the Quran says that we can’t marry two sisters. Also we find that Hazrat Usmaan (Radiyallahu Anhu) got married to two daughters of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). Please confirm.

Bismillaah

A:

1. You are not a mahram for her. Hence, you cannot travel with her.

2. It is not permissible for one to get married to two sisters at the same time. Hazrat Usmaan (Radiyallahu Anhu) married the second daughter of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) after the demise of the first daughter.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
