Using the title Saheb for someone

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to ask that is it a sin to give someone the title sahib e.g Rashid sahib? My friend told me that it is a sin because we can’t say sahib for anyone accept Allah Ta’ala.

Bismillaah

A: It is not a sin. It is a title of respect used for people. It is not used for Allah Ta’ala. When refering to Allah Ta’ala greater titles of respect are used e.g. Azzawajal, Allah Ta’ala, etc.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
