Can Sunni Muslims offer Zuhr and Asr together, as Shia Muslims do?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalam-o-alaikum, Please guide if Sunni Muslims can offer Zuhr and Asr prayers together (as Shia Muslims do). Has Rasulallah (SAW) offered Zuhr and Asar prayer ever like this. If there is an example, please guide where it is quoted? Thank you and JazakALLAH

No. According to Ahnaf, it is not lawful to offer two salah in single time. Only it is lawful to offer Zuhar and Asr in the time of Zuhar in Arafah on the occasion of Hajj and Maghrib and Isha in the time of Isha in Muzdalfa. Besides these two occasions, it is not lawful to offer two salah together.

In some hadith we find mention of two salah together but Ahnaf have ruled it as apparent combination ( offering Zuhar salah in its last time and the Asar salah in its first time) i.e. seemingly both the salah are offered together while in reality both are offered in their times as many hadiths support it.
