Is it permissible to celebrate birthdays in Islam, and if one is invited to a birthday party, should they attend?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
In Islam, is it allowed to celebrate birthdays. If anybody (Muslim or non muslim) invites a muslim to attend a birth day party, whether one should go to attend it or not?

Answer

(Fatwa: 34/34=M)

It is unlawful to celebrate birthday, it is a tradition of the West and it has no importance in Islam. It is wrong to attend such nonsense celebrations whether the invitatory is a Muslim or a non-Muslim.
