Is it okay for a pet cat to sit on the bed and sofa and on our lap? Can we pick up a pet cat? Will there be an issue of impurity (napaaki)?

Yes, there is no harm if a pet sits on bed, sofa or lap. Cat is not najis al-ain (inherently impure). Yes, its urine etc are impure which one should avoid.
