What must I do if I am praying a non-obligatory prayer and one of my parents call me? What should I do if this happens while I am praying an obligatory prayer?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Translated by Hamza Karamali

If the parent is harmed by the child’s not answering him, it is obligatory for the child to respond when he is praying non-obligatory prayer, which is invalidated by his doing so.

If he is praying an obligatory prayer, it is impermissible for him to respond to his parent in order to prevent invalidating his prayer. Rather, he should wait until he completes it and then respond. This is what our imams have mentioned about this issue. [You may refer to Bushra al-Karim when it discusses the tenth condition of the conditions of the prayer.]
