  1. Assalamu alaikum ustaz.
If.McDonald’s sell a burger and named it prosperity burger during the time of Chinese new year as a form of marketing they say to celebrate Chinese new year. Can we buy and eat?
Answered by Imam Zahed Fettah

Alhamdulillah,

If the burger is in and of itself halal, then the way they package it for advertising purposes does not impact the permissibility of the food. The Hanbali scholars, such as Imam al-Mardawi in al-Insaf, have explicitly stated that such is the ruling even if food was to be made in celebration of festivals of non-Muslims (such as the one in question here) so long as the food itself is halal.

So eating halal foods that have been packaged as explained above for advertising purposes would be permitted.

And knowledge is with Allah
