Is Street Fighting Allowed?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ZamzamAcademy.com

Can you please tell me whether it is allowed in Islam for a man to do stuff like street fighting, (just like Fight Club the movie). I know a brother who is saying that he is just trying to stay strong, and want to see what his limits are, insha’Allah he would like to go and fight one day.

He goes to the extreme of wanting to be involved in competitions and fight with other people who are willing to do the same thing until one person gives in. There is alot of blood, bruising and gore. Apparently they get a buzz out if it. I know it is sunna to wrestle, but is one allowed to go to extreme and fight like this.

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah the Inspirer of truth.

It is not permissible to take part in street fighting since this leads to the injury of another person which is unlawful in Islam.

The Prophet Sallallahu alayhi wasallam said:

“Every Muslim is unlawful upon another Muslim; his blood, wealth, and honor”
(Sahih Muslim).

Yes it is a sunnah to remain healthy for a Muslim but this type of activity transgresses the bounds of Islamic Law.

And Allah knows best.
