Grandparents siblings being Mahrams

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Is a woman’s grandfather’s and grandmother’s brother’s Mahrams? Can they shake hands for longer periods of time?

A. A woman’s grandfather’s and grandmother’s brothers are considered Mahrams (non-strangers) to each other. It is permissible for them to shake/hold hands (Musaafahah) with each other whenever they meet provided that there is no fear of temptation (Fitnah) that may arise between them. (Surah Nisaa’ 23). It is inappropriate for them to shake/hold each other’s hands for long periods of time.
