Fortune Telling in Islam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Is fortune telling allowed in Islam? Are we allowed to seek guidance from fortune-tellers?

A. Fortune telling is a major sin and is totally Haraam in Islam. It is prohibited to even seek guidance from fortune-tellers.

Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Whoever has intercourse with a menstruating woman, or with a woman in her rear, or who goes to a fortune teller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad” (Ibn Majah)
