Is it permissible to shop for deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Is it permissible to shop for deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

A. Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day (29 November 2019). The term Black Friday was coined to describe crowds and traffic conditions on the Friday following Thanksgiving.

Cyber Monday refers to the Monday following Thanksgiving Day (2 December 2019). It was created by retailers to encourage people to shop online following Thanksgiving.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday have no religious connotations to it. It is merely a time that many retailers — both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce — offer their best deals.

It is permissible to shop for deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
