I do perform complete purdah when I go out and keep my face open while I am at home. Is getting one’s eyebrows plucked / done for the sake of embellishment for one’s husband permissible in Islam in that situation? I used to pluck my eyebrows but then I stopped because I heard it was not allowed. But now my husband says I don’t look as pretty and attractive as I used to and that’s why I wanted to know if I could do it for him please provide a response as soon as possible.

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق
Walaikumassalam Warahmatullah
It is impermissible to follow the ways of the fashionable, modern and indecent women and getting one’s eyebrows done. Such an action comes in the realm of altering the creation of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala. However, if a woman’s eyebrows are so dense that it looks awful then it will become permissible to trim them with an intention to please her husband. This ruling is given with the binding condition that the trimming should not make her resemble a mukhannas (transgender).
ابن عمر رضي اللّٰہ عنہما قال: قال رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم: من تشبہ بقوم فہو منہم۔ (سنن أبي داؤد، کتاب اللباس / باب في لبس الشہرۃ ۲؍۵۵۹ رقم: ۴۰۳۱ )
قال القاري: أي من شبّہ نفسہ بالکفار مثلاً في اللباس وغیرہ، أو بالفساق أو الفجار، أو بأہل التصوف والصلحاء الأبرار ’’فہو منہم‘‘: أي في الإثم أو الخیر عند اللّٰہ تعالیٰ … الخ۔ (بذل المجہود، کتاب اللباس / باب في لبس الشہرۃ ۱۲؍۵۹)
عن عبد اللّٰہ بن مسعود رضي اللّٰہ عنہ قال: لعن اللّٰہ الواشمات والمستوشمات، والمُتنمِّصات، والمتفلجات للحسن المغیرات خَلْقَ اللّٰہ تعالیٰ، مالي لا ألعنُ من لعن النبي صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم وہو في کتاب اللّٰہ: {مَا اٰتٰکُمُ الرَّسُوْلُ فَخُذُوْہُ} (صحیح البخاري، کتاب اللباس / باب المتفلجات للحسن ۲؍۸۷۸ رقم: ۵۹۳۱ دار الفکر بیروت)
بأس بأخذ الحاجبین وشعر وجہہ وجہہ ما لم یشبہ المخنث ۔ (شامي ۹؍۵۳۶ زکریا، طحطاوي علی الدر ۴؍۱۸۶)ولا بأس بأن یأخذ شعر الحاجبین وشعر وجہہ، والمراد ما یکون مشوہا لخبر لعن اللّٰہ النامصۃ والمتنمصۃ۔ (حاشیۃ الطحطاوي علی مراقي الفلاح ص: ۵۲۶، احسن الفتاویٰ ۸؍۷۶)
