Controlling Desires

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualikum Warahmatullah Mufti Sahib,

I’m a teenager. I’ve a huge problem of playing computer games for hours, hence wasting valuable time. Al-Humdulilah, by the Fazal of Allah(SWT) I pray 5 daily prayers, read Qur’an every day, send salawat on the Prophet(SWAS) mostly everyday. I’ve also made every day schedule so that I can be productive. But, I was only able to follow that schedule for 4 days then something inside me started to urge me to play games when I wasn’t suppose to(according to my schedule). I tried controlling it and was able to for a while, but at last I ended up playing the game and breaking my schedule. I’ll InShaAllah do what you want me to do in this matter.

I request you to take this case seriously since I’m very depressed.

Jazakallah Mufti Sahib Please make dua for me, too.

الجواب وبالله التوفيق

Try to have a firm intention when you decide to do something. Remove such things from your life which are wasteful and have no significance here and hereafter. This way your attention would not even go to those things. Also make dua to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala for the power and steadfastness to refrain from such things.

واللہ اعلم  بالصواب
