Qadha for Fasts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Asalamualaikum.

Hazrat, I am sure you’re aware in summer in the UK, there are 3 Hanafi different fajr start times/serhi times if it’s Ramadan.

My wife prepares my mother/brother’s sehri breakfast at a set time (2:30am).

My mother/brother don’t follow the Hanafi timetable, that I choose where sehri ends at 1:30am because it’s too early. I think they’ve been intending to follow the one where sehri ends around between 2:30am – 2:43am, but sehri today was exactly 2:30am. I have realised today, that my mother, and my wife have been relying on the other to make sure when sehri ends. This has resulted in my mother/brother eating when sehri has actually ended. I hate to tell my mother, that her fasts are possibly invalid because she’ll emotionally self-destruct.

Under these difficult circumcentres, can it considered, that theirs fasts are valid because according to the third variant timetable (Hanafi), sehri ends closer to 3am, this would mean they completed sehri within the allocated time according to this timetable, and they will then intentionally follow this timetable right to the end? I’m hoping this can be approved because I don’t think she was wholeheartedly following any timetable considering, we didn’t bring a timetable home.

I know this is really poor planning, but lesson learned. I need to know where my mother, and brother stand.

Jazak’Allah.

One should follow the most precautionary timetable for performing their sehri.
