I am getting a job in the IT department of a bank? Please advise if working for a bank in this manner is permissible or if in general accepting employment from banks is permissible.

If this job in the bank involves working with interest based transactions e.g. taking interest, giving interest, documenting the details of such transactions, saving such documentation etc. then according to the Islamic Shari‘ah, working there will be considered impermissible. The ahadith of Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallam clearly describe a dire warning of curse upon all parties who are involved in an interest based transaction.
عن جابر بن عبد اللّٰہ رضي اللّٰہ عنہ قال: لعن رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم آکل الربوا ومؤکلہ وکاتبہ وشاہدیہ، وقال: ہم سواء۔ (صحیح مسلم ۲؍۷۲ رقم: ۱۵۹۸)
عن أنس رضي اللّٰہ عنہ عن النبي صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم قال: طلب الحلال واجب علی کل مسلم۔ (المعجم الأوسط ۶؍۲۳۱ رقم: ۸۶۱۰)
عن عبد اللّٰہ رضي اللّٰہ عنہ قال: قال رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم: طلب کسب الحلال فریضۃ بعد الفریضۃ۔
(شعب الإیمان للبیہقي ۶؍۴۲۰ رقم: ۸۷۴۱)لا تصح الإجارۃ لأجل المعاصي۔ (الدر المختار / باب الإجارۃ الفاسدۃ ۹؍۷۵ )
