If bleeding/istihaza during purity days

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

If a woman got her menstruation from January 1st to  January 7th. Then on January 15th , 16th, 17th she got bleeding, which she will consider as istihaza . Will she start count of her purity days from January 18th (and consider 15 days of purity requirement from January 18th), or will she start count of her purity days from January 8th (the day after her menstruarion)?

Basically, will the days of istihaza be counted as “purity days” when she has to count 15 days of purity before next menstruation?

 الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

If the woman is in the habit of menstrual days as described in the question then from January 1st thru 7th would be the days of her period. After that the bleeding on the 15th, 16th, and the 17th would be استحاضہ (Istihadha).

The days of purification start when the bleeding stops right after her habitual days of period. In the described example the woman would be considered purified from January 8th not from the 18th and would remain purified for at least 15 days  and the bleeding in these 15 days would be استحاضہ (Istihadha). During استحاضہ(Istihadha) woman would be considered purified. After having purification it will be incumbent on her to pray Salat and Fast.
