Timing of the Khutbah in Salatul-Eid

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Someone told me that before the year 1975, the Khutbah used to be before Salatul-Eid but after that people changed it to make the Khutbah after the Salah. I told them that this has been like this always i.e. the Khutbah of Salatul-Eid is always after Salatul-Eid. Did I tell them the correct way? Please confirm, I will be really thankful to you.

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

To pray Salatul-Eid before the Khutbah (sermon) and deliver the Khutbah after the Salah is the noble practice of Rasulullah Sallallaho ‘Alyhi Wasallam. Furthermore, it has been the noble practice of Hazrat Abu Bakr RaziAllah Ta’ala ‘Anhu, Hazrat Umar RaziAllah Ta’ala ‘Anhu, Hazrat Usman RaziAllah Ta’ala ‘Anhu, and Hazrat Ali RaziAllah Ta’ala ‘Anhu. Whoever has told you the statement detailed in your question is incorrect and their information is based on ignorance of the facts.
