Validity of Wudhu after Changing Baby’s Diaper

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

I know that when a person touches the private part, one’s state of wudhu is not valid anymore. I am a mother of a 3 months old baby and I want to know what the Islamic teachings say about the validity of one’s wudhu upon changing the baby’s diper. Is the wudhu still valid after changing the baby’s diaper?

JazakAllahu Khaira

The wudhu does not get invalidated by touching the private parts or by changing a baby’s diaper. With such wudhu you can perform salah and other acts of worship. However, while changing the diaper if one comes in contact with the najasah (impurity) it will be mandatory to wash its residual from one’s hands.
