Is Hashmat a good name for a boy? I heard from some people that it does not have good effect on the person. Should we change this name to something more suitable for my son?

The meanings of the word Hashmat include servant, maid, greatness, stature, glory and an army or battalion etc. There is no Shar‘ai issue in keeping this name for your child however it is recommended to name the child with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala’s names (by adding Abd at the beginning, e.g. Abdullah, Abdur-Rahman etc.). Or the names of the prophets, awliya or other names which have better meanings can also be used.
عن ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « أَحَبُّ الأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ (سنن ترمذی:کتاب الادب: باب مَا جَاءَ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ مِنَ الأَسْمَاءِ.،۳۰۶۷)
عبد الله بن جراد قال : صحبني رجل من مؤتة فأتى النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم وأنا معه فقال يا رسول الله ولد لي مولود فما أخير الأسماء ؟ قال إن خير أسمائكم الحارث و همام و نعم الاسم عبد الله و عبد الرحمن و سموا بأسماء الأنبياء و لا تسموا بأسماء الملائكة(شعب الایمان:۸۶۳۶)
عن المغيرة”.(إنهم كانوا يسمون بأنبيائهم والصالحين قبلهم.( کنز العمال: 45252)
عن عائشة”.:تسموا بخياركم، واطلبوا حوائجكم عند حسان الوجوه. .( کنز العمال: 45229)
