Throwing out a Food Wrapper with Islamic Text Written on it

Question: Assalamoalaikum,

Someone bought a food item that has a halal labeling. On the wrapper, however, it had an Arabic text written on it. I don’t speak Arabic, but I think it might be the Shahada. Then this person threw the wrapper out. Was he supposed to erase certain parts of the text before throwing it out?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this reaches you in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

Yes, in general you should erase the name of Allah and His Messengers (Allah bless them all and give them all peace) before throwing items or literature into the trash.

And Allah alone gives success.
