Does Using an Asthma Pipe Invalidate the Fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azak

Question: When a person takes the asthma pipe while fasting, does this break the fast. If it does, what should one do?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

Yes, inhaling from an asthma pipe will invalidate the fast. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

Speak to a medical doctor regarding whether you can arrange to take your pipe around the fasting hours, or take a different medicine.

Otherwise, if you break your fast [by using the inhaler] due to genuine medical need, then you will only be required to perform a makeup (qadha) of that fast.

And Allah alone gives success.
