Is Hair Transplantation Allowed, and Can One Remove Unsightly Body Hair?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: (1) I have a problem with hairloss and feel I am losing a lot of hair very quickly and I am not yet married. Would it be permissible for me to have a hair transplant to replace the hair I have lost on my head?

(2) Also would it be permissible to remove hair from the chest, arms, legs or back if it is unsightly?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health states.

(1) Hair transplantation is a procedure that involves moving hair follicles from one part of the body to another. It is not considered changing the creation of Allah or mutilation, but is rather a restorative measure, so as to correct a defect (i.e., balding). It is therefore permissible.

(2) It is permissible to remove hair from the chest, back, arms or legs, especially if it is unsightly, although it is considered improper etiquette (adab) for men. [Nahlawi, Durar Mubaha fil Hazr wal Ibaha]

For both issues though, a condition of permissibility is that the procedure itself not cause harm.

And Allah knows best.
wassalam
